Items We Are Able to Accept
We welcome donations of most household items, including electrical appliances. However due to the various insurance and health and safety requirements, and to the sometimes very restricted nature of the homes to which we deliver, we do unfortunately have to impose some limitations. It is also essential that the items are reasonably clean and in working order, and in suitable and safe condition for transportation.
As regards electrical goods, we do carry out statutory electrical testing and dispose of any items that fail the tests. However disposing of failed electrical items is difficult as mentioned below, so to keep their numbers to a minimum we are only able to collect items in working order and in reasonable condition. We are no longer able to accept electric ovens.
Test failures and any items we collect but find are not suitable for placement have to be disposed of at the local waste transfer site. We do have a charity permit for the site, but this is closely watched to ensure we do not use it too heavily. We dare not risk having the licence revoked, in which case we would have to pay at the tip, and this means that we have to be very selective in our collections. Further more, the list of items the waste site will take is constantly being reduced. For example, TV sets, refrigerators and freezers are not now accepted as they are regarded as hazardous. For these reasons our collecting teams may find it necessary to decline donations they consider to be in very poor conditions or, in the case of electrical appliances, unsafe or likely to fail electrical safety tests.
The following lists show what we can and cannot currently accept. This is under continual review, taking into account demand for certain items and the amount of storage room was have available.
If you have something to donate please use the Contact Us tab above, or call our office (01252 616998) we only have one line so please be patient, to discuss what you have and to arrange for us to collect or for you to bring to site. If we collect, our driver will make the final decision on acceptability.
We welcome the following
We gratefully accept donations of the following categories of items, subject to their being in reasonable and transportable condition (much ‘flat pack' furniture will not survive removal and delivery). If you have an item that is not listed, please call us as below to discuss.
We are unable to make any payment for donated items.
Due to insurance restrictions, we cannot accept upholstered goods, beds, mattresses and the like unless they have blue fire resistance labels.
Notwithstanding any prior arrangements, our volunteer drivers are to make the final decision on the acceptability of items offered. They may also not be able to accept an item if they feel they will not be able to move it safely, particularly from a difficult location, or deliver it to recipients or they consider its condition to be too poor.
All electrical goods are PAT tested before re-use; however we have no facilities to test appliances for function.
Please call us on 01252 616998 to arrange collection. Our telephone is in continual use, and it may take several tries to get through.
